Read MoreAddiction is a complex disease that can affect all areas of your life. It can impact the way you deal with stress, behave in professional situations, and react under pressure. It can also affect the way you care for yourself and interact with the people around you.
At Arise Treatment Center, our holistic, whole-person approach is designed to help you return back to a normal, functioning life after overcoming addiction. That’s why we incorporate personalized life skills therapy into our addiction treatment program–so you can increase your ability to manage social, vocational, and personal obligations.
The goal of life skills therapy is to teach you how to live your life in an independent and sufficient manner. During therapy, you will learn everyday skills that you may have neglected due to your addiction, such as cooking nutritious meals, keeping your home and personal belongings organized, balancing a budget, practicing self-care, and improving your communication skills.
When you are able to carry out these basic life skills effectively, you will find your recovery journey to be easier and less stressful.
Life skills therapy is incorporated into every aspect of your treatment program. For example, you may be asked to have your bed made before therapy sessions start or you may work with a nutritionist to develop a personalized meal plan. Other skills, such as communication and interpersonal skills, will be highlighted during group therapy sessions.
The exact type of skills taught will vary based on your personal needs. At Arise Treatment Center, we will identify the areas of your life that need improvement the most, and help you master the life skills that will improve your day-to-day functioning.
Basic daily life skills like cooking, cleaning, and self-care are important for recovery and mental health, but they aren’t the only ones you need for addiction recovery. Other more complex skills that may be covered during treatment include:
